Collection of Poems for the imaginative, inspired, and reflective.

The book is a collection of poems aimed at the age ranges of 16+ and adults. Poems cover a wide variety of themes including war and peace, emotion, Faith, human nature, history, legend, and nature. From an early age I have had an interest in writing, but it wasn’t until I reached my forties whilst caring for a terminally ill parent that I found I had the inclination as well as the time to reflect, and jot down my thoughts. Thus creating this collection of poems.

There is no set method in the way verse poems can be presented, i.e., with or without punctuation for example. Therefore, the poems are written and presented in various of ways. Some poems use words that are native to the dialect of the area or region in which they are set. An example is 'The Highwayman' in which certain words in the poem have particular meaning in the local dialect.
The Highwayman: This poem is set in the Wiltshire Downs. A ‘moonraker’ is an old Wiltshire term for a smuggler or someone who illegally operates in a place. The word ‘Downs’ is used in the poem and give reference to the Wiltshire Downs, a ‘rake’ was a man or gentleman who lived by immoral means, and a ‘reaver’ is an archaic term for one who despoils, plunders, or takes with violence. The county of Wiltshire had its fair share of highwayman, and even an highwaywoman, during the eighteenth century, including the notorious Thomas Boulter.

Personally, I think that the best poems come from inspiration and the imagination. This collection of poems is just that, and I hope that you will enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed writing them. I am presently working on other projects including a period novel and selection of short stories. If you like my poems, or after reading this, I hope that you will please share this blog on social media.

Best regards, D. F. Gregory
